Unemployment down by over 1,700 in Hartlepool
April 17, 2015
Richard Royal, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Hartlepool, has welcomed new figures showing 1,705 fewer people in Hartlepool claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance and Universal Credit compared to 2010 - a 42% drop. This means more people in work, with the security of a good job and a regular pay packet so they can provide for themselves and their families. Jobs are being created in Hartlepool by businesses such as those around the port and at Queens Meadow Estate.
People are getting off benefits and into work across the North East, with 44,000 more people in work since the last election. Across the UK, there are two million more people at work since the last election.
But all this is at risk if Miliband gets into Downing Street, propped up by the SNP. Because Labour are facing a wipeout in Scotland, he’ll have to rely on the SNP for support. With Nicola Sturgeon calling the shots, we would suffer here in Hartlepool. They would hike up borrowing, hit pay packets, and cost us jobs.
That’s why it’s so important to vote for Conservative here on 7 May and secure a brighter future for our area. We just can’t afford to risk it with Labour and the SNP.
Richard Royal said:
‘It’s excellent news that over 1,700 fewer people are relying on Jobseeker’s Allowance and Universal Credit in Hartlepool – that’s more families here with the stability and security of a regular pay packet.
“This is thanks to the hard work and the determination of people here, and the Conservatives’ strong leadership and clear economic plan.
“But it would all be put at risk with the chaos of a Miliband-SNP stitch-up, hiking borrowing, hurting the economy, and costing jobs – and it’ll be hardworking people in Hartlepool who’ll pay. That’s why you have to vote Conservative here to get a brighter, more secure future for our community.’
